Nomination deadline is next Friday

CELINA-The future of the Clay County Sports Hall of Fame (HOF) is totally dependent on the participation of the public, because, unless they are nominated, those worthy of the honor will never be inducted.

Nominations are currently being sought for the 2019 class and will be accepted here through next Friday, December 13, but submissions have been slow to trickle in.

The organization—which is committed to recognizing the outstanding achievements of Clay County athletes, coaches, administrators, and support contributors—has made the nomination process simple, in order to encourage the public to participate.

Official nomination forms can be found online at the group’s website (claycosportshof.com) or they can be picked up at Clay County High School (CCHS).  Completed forms can then be emailed to [email protected], dropped off at CCHS, or mailed to the school here at 860 Clay County Highway, Celina, TN 38551 through the deadline date of Friday, December 13.

Nominations can be made in three different categories, including athletes and coaches, heritage, and contributor members.

Athletes who have been out of high school for 10 years are eligible, those whose careers were largely based at least 50 years ago fall under the heritage category, and contributors include administrators or people who were involved in some capacity besides coaching or playing.

Athletes whose careers date back at least 50 years can also be voted in as regular members if the nominator chooses to put them in that category.

Nominations are also not exclusive to those who played high school sports.  Athletes who excelled in a post-high school or other sport are also eligible.

Detailed nominations—which include statistics, honors, awards, and any other historical information—are strongly encouraged, in order to highlight the nominee’s merits.

Over 100 previous hall of fame inductees will vote by electronic ballot to determine this year’s class, therefore, the more information provided with nominations, the better.

The date for this year’s induction ceremony and meet-and-greet reception will be announced at a later date.
