Hay Day is set for Friday, other events successful
CELINA-The Clay County Women’s Building here at the fairgrounds will host a jointly-sponsored event called Hay Day this Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, as a part of the Clay County Extension office’s ongoing efforts to deliver educational programs and research-based information to the community.
Co-sponsored by the Clay County Soil & Water Conservation District, the event will feature breakfast and registration from 8-9 a.m., with the program to follow and ending around noon.
Topics of instruction will include hay bale nutrition, forage testing, soil health, soil testing, chicken litter application, lime application, spreader calibration, and soil conservation programs.
Hen auction is a success
The 2024 Clay County 4-H Spring Chick Chain Show and Hen Auction held here at the fairgrounds has been deemed a great success by organizers.
“All of the 4-Hers did a great job raising and presenting their hens,” extension officials said. “A huge thank you to all of the parents and relatives that came out to support the kids, as well as all of the buyers and our auctioneer James Hamilton.”
Show winners included:
• Overall Grand Champion Pen and Breed Champion Rhode Island Red—Aelynn Caravalho;
• Overall Reserve Champion Pen and Breed Champion Golden Laced Wyandotte—Kennedy Ferrera;
• Reserve Breed Champion Rhode Island Red—Jodi Sampson;
• Reserve Breed Champion Golden Laced Wyandotte—Adelynn Finley;
• Skillathon Winner—Jence Sampson;
• Record Book Winner—Grace McLerran; and
• Mystery Chick Winner—Jence Sampson.
4-H livestock judging results
The Clay County 4-H Livestock Judging Team traveled to Murfreesboro earlier this spring for the Central Region 4-H Livestock Judging Contest, and the results are in.
“We are proud of the work this team put in,” officials said. “A huge thank you to Reyes Rich for co-coaching this team.”
Results from the contest included:
• Junior High Division 1st High Individual—Bella Hale;
• Junior High Division 8th High Individual—Kylie Brawner;
• Junior High Division 2nd High Team—Bella Hale, Katelyn Browning, and Kate McLerran; and
• Senior High Division High Individual—Kendall Hamilton.
Horse judging contest results
Local extension officials said the Clay County 4-H Horse Judging Team had a great time at the Central Region/MTSU Horse Judging Contest in Murfreesboro earlier this spring and fared well at the event.
Results from the MTSU Contest included:
• Junior 4th High Individual—Cole Smith;
• Junior Team 5th Place—Cole Smith, Elliana Martinez, and Bella King-Rodgers; and
• Senior 7th in Reasons—Kendall Hamilton.
Results from the Central Region 4-H Contest included:
• Junior 4th High Individual—Cole Smith; and
• Junior 3rd High Team—Cole Smith, Elliana Martinez, and Bella King-Rodgers.
Clay County 4-Hers also recently attended the Area 2 Project Achievement Day held at Cookeville’s Hyder-Burks Pavilion and presented their county winning demonstrations and interactive exhibits.
