Fall sports broadcasts return this month
CELINA-The Horizon Sports Network will kick off its eighth season of broadcasting Clay County High School football this month, as the live-stream affiliate of the Dale Hollow HORIZON newspaper carries the Bulldogs’ season opener with York Institute live here on Friday night, August 23.
Play-by-play announcer Daniel Strong and analyst Thomas Weaver are set to begin the 2024 season that night at 6 p.m. with the start of the Carquest Pregame show, and the game between Dawgs and the Dragons will kick off at 7 p.m.
In addition to the gridiron, plans are in the works for the debut season of Clay County Lady Bulldog Volleyball broadcasts, thanks to 40-year veteran Craig Cantrell joining the HORIZON team.
Cantrell, who will also be alongside Strong and Weaver this season for football games like he was during spring sports, has experience calling volleyball and will anchor the Lady Dawg broadcasts with Doug Strong serving as a color analyst.
Doug Strong’s brings with him a vast knowledge of all things Clay County sports, and he has been a guest analyst on the network during both basketball and spring sports in the past.
All Horizon Sports Network broadcasts are made possible by a wide array of local sponsors and can be heard online at www.dalehollowhorizon.com or viewed with video on the Dale Hollow Horizon Facebook page.
Each audio airing features all the normal aspects of standard radio, but listeners are not geographically limited by the small reach of towers–because they can follow the game from anywhere in the world using their computer, phone, or mobile device.
The same can be said for the video broadcasts at Facebook.com/dalehollowhorizon.
“And if they miss the game live, Bulldog fans can go back anytime and watch or listen—an option not available with standard radio,” Weaver said. “Clay County players can even go back and listen or watch their games being called the next day or possibly even the same night.”
Follow the Dale Hollow Horizon Facebook page for weekly broadcast schedules as both the football and volleyball seasons near, along with much more coverage of all things Clay County and Dale Hollow Lake.
