May was wet, but not nearly our wettest

CELINA-May sure seemed like a wet month (and it was), but it was by no means the wettest May in recent memory. One thing that did happen that made it seem like it was extremely wet was that it rained 18 of 31 days.
But when you compare May 2025 to last year and to the “great flood” in May of 2010, it’s not even close.
For example, May 2024 was wetter than in 2010, when Nashville, downstream from us on the Cumberland River, was so hard hit by rain and flooding.
Here’s how it shaped up, with highlights in parentheses:
May 2025 – 6.53 inches (1.95 inches on 5-4).
May 2010 – 10.27 (7.54 inches on 5-1 and 5-2).
May 2024 – 11.87 (four big days thru the month – 2.70, 2.42, 2.13 and 1.74).
Our 30-year norm in Celina for May, our 4th wettest month of the year, is 5.10 inches.
