Graduating seniors honored with scholarships

Scott’s Bestway and Farm Bureau both help local students
CELINA-Among many scholarships earned by recent Clay County High School graduates were three given in honor of the late Fred Scott and two more presented by Clay County Farm Bureau (CCFB).
CCHS golf team members Lance Burchett, Nate Adams, and Hayden Adams all received $250 Fred Scott Memorial Scholarships, while Kendall Hamilton and Erin Meadows were awarded $500 CCFB Scholarships.
Scott’s son Jeff and Scott’s Bestway, which his father opened in 1977, established the scholarship honoring the late businessman and community supporter.
Scott, who passed away in 2023, was an avid golfer, fisherman, and marble player. He was also involved in many public activities and known for his positive contributions to the community.
As a testament to Scott’s hard work towards serving and employing the people of Clay County and his love for golf, Burchett and the Adams were chosen because they exhibit the same qualities.
Hamilton and Meadows were selected to receive the CCFB Scholarships based on awards, involvement, and projects in agriculture, 4-H, FFA, and agricultural organizations.
They will receive their scholarships after completion of the Fall Semester with a 2.5 GPA at a junior college, four-year college/university, or other accredited institution of higher education, such as a trade school or technical school.
The mission of Clay County Farm Bureau is to develop, foster, promote, and protect programs for the general welfare, including economic, social, educational, and political well-being, of farm people of the state of Tennessee.
