CCHS teams both even their records last week
UNIONVILLE-Both Clay County High School basketball teams evened their records at 4-4 last week by dropping a home doubleheader to Gordonsville and splitting games here on the road at Community High School.
After getting swept by the Tigers (50-37) and Tigerettes (62-37) in Celina to open the week, the teams battled Community to a pair of overtime decisions Friday, where the Dawgs came out on the victorious end of a 61-59 score against the Vikings and the Lady Dawgs fell to the Viqueens 47-42.
The CCHS teams were looking to get back above .500 Tuesday night after HORIZON press time at Macon County, before hosting the Clay County Christmas Classic over the weekend (see related story).
Then following the holiday, they will take part in the Harriman Christmas Classic, where the teams will play back-to-back on Monday, December 29 and also take the court on Tuesday, December 30.
The Lady Dawgs will face Scott County at 1 p.m. EST on Monday, followed by the Dawgs squaring off with McMinn Central at 2:15 p.m. EST. Both games will be played in the Harriman Middle School Gym.
On Tuesday in the Harriman High School Gym, the Clay County girls will play Kingston at 10:30 a.m. EST and the boys will take on Sunbright at 1 p.m. EST.

CELINA-Gordonsville dominated the Lady Dawgs 62-37 here to start last week in a game where the Tigerettes jumped out to a 22-9 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back.
Senior Ella Eads was the only Clay County girl to score in double figures with 12 points in the contest, while junior Natalie Smith added eight points in the loss.
Gordonsville ballooned their lead to 40-15 at halftime, before going on to claim the blowout win.

Following a close first half, Gordonsville pulled away in the final two frames to beat the Dawgs 50-37 on their home court last week.
Senior Cole Eads led the Clay County boys with 11 points, while his classmates Nolan Adams and Aayden Cherry came close to double figures with nine and eight points respectively.
The Dawgs led 15-11 at the end of the first quarter, where Adams scored all of his points, before the Tigers rallied to go ahead 19-17 at the break when Clay County only posted two points in the second stanza.
A Bulldog 5-0 run late in the third quarter tied the game at 27, but Gordonsville outscored Clay County 23-10 the rest of the way to claim the victory.

UNIONVILLE-Community knocked off the Lady Dawgs in overtime by a score of 47-42 here last Friday night to hand the Clay County girls their second loss of the week.
Ella Eads, who led the Lady Dawgs in scoring with 18 points, tied the game at 39 with six seconds remaining in regulation to send the contest into the extra period.
The Viqueens then outscored the Clay County girls 8-3 in overtime to secure the victory.
Natalie Smith also posted 14 points for the Lady Dawgs in the contest, including a three-pointer in the second quarter to help her team only trail 21-19 at halftime.
Clay County found themselves down 33-28 heading into the fourth quarter, before Eads rallied her team to force overtime.

Nolan Adams scored a season-high 28 points and Cole Eads added 17 points for the Dawgs in their 61-59 overtime victory here at Community last Friday night.
The largest lead for either team was five points in a close first half that ended with Clay County ahead 36-35, before they battled to a 45-45 tie at the end of the third period and the game remained knotted at 51 at the end of regulation.
Adams then posted seven of the Dawgs’ 10 points in overtime to seal the two-point victory.
