Officer recognized, grant for police approved at city meet

CELINA-Celina Mayor Luke Collins and city aldermen recognized a city police officer for his achievements and approved a grant for the department at their December meeting held here last week.
Celina police officer Logan Hunter was formally recognized and presented with a certificate of appreciation and a key to the city for his recent completion of two specialized training courses, along with his commitment to public safety and continued pursuit of excellence.
Hunter successfully graduated from Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) and DUI Standardized Field Sobriety Test and Detection Instructor training.
Both courses were provided free of charge by the Tennessee Highway Safety Office, and Hunter graduated at the top of his class.
“I am very proud of Officer Hunter,” Celina Police Chief Terry Scott said. “He is going the extra step to improve his knowledge and remove impaired drivers from the streets of Celina, making it safer for everyone. He has shown outstanding performance.”
Alderman also approved a grant set to fund new handheld radios for the city police department.
Local assistant police chief Spencer Booher spoke to alderman concerning the $5,000 communications grant from Twin Lakes.
“We applied for this community grant through Twin Lakes and were awarded it at the end of last month,” Booher said. “With this grant we are able to purchase four new R7 Motorola radios. This helped our communication system out. These are handheld radios.”
Alderman Tracy Mills made a motion to accept the $5,000 Twin Lakes communications grant. Alderman Mike Boles seconded the motion, and it passed 3-0.
In other business, alderman Mike Boles made a motion to approve alternate sports (bike races). Mills seconded the motion. and it passed 3-0.
