Clarkrange girls roll to 32nd victory in District 7-A finals against Jackson County
By KEVIN DONALDSON
LIVINGSTON-The Clarkrange Lady Buffaloes jumped to an early lead and never let go of it as they claimed another District 7-A tournament championship in a 47-30 win over Jackson County here Monday night.
It was the 32nd win of the season against no losses for the Lady Buffaloes, who placed five players on the all-tournament team (see related story).
Clarkrange jumped to an 18-5 lead after one, and increased that lead to 15 (23-8) at intermission. Jackson County staged a bit of a comeback in the third quarter and chopped the lead to 29-19 at the end of the period, but the Lady Buffaloes pulled away again in the fourth quarter to notch their third win over the Lady Blue Devils on the season. Clarkrange started and finished strong, scoring 18 points in the first and fourth quarters.
Jackson County is the only team to play Clarkrange to a single-digit loss (nine points) this year. The Lady Buffaloes have won their 32 contests by an average of over 25 points, and have not lost since the state title game against the Lady Blue Devils last season.
Tournament MVP Molly Heady of Clarkrange led all scorers with 15 points. She was joined in double figures by teammate Tasha Phillips with 11. Emily Bowman led Jackson County with 10 points.
