WWII, Korea veterans receive honorary high school diplomas
CELINA-Fifteen World War II and Korean War veterans were awarded honorary high school diplomas in a brief ceremony at Clay County High School last Friday.
The presentations were made by CCHS principal Diana Monroe and schools director Donnie Cherry, in a ceremony attended by school officials and family members.
“Of all the school projects I have been a part of in the past 30 years, there has not been one I’ve enjoyed being a part of more,” Monroe said before the presentations were made.
“Congratulations to all of you, and thanks for your sacrifice for our country,” she said. She told those in attendance if there are other WWII and Korea veterans interested in receiving a diploma, they can contact her at CCHS at 243-2340.
Those at the ceremony receiving the honorary diplomas were:
WORLD WAR II – Paul White and Harold Walters.
KOREA – Billy Ray Atchley, John Wheeler Eads, Bert Hestand Jr., Andrew Keisling, Billy Kirby, Elbert Sherrell, James Strong, Lecil Thompson, Loyd Waldron and Howard “Posey” Young.
Cordell Strong, Freeman Swan and Aaron Wilmoth also received diplomas, but were unable to attend.
