Clarkrange girls get 8th state title and another one for District 7-A
MURFREESBORO-The Clarkrange girls finished off a perfect 39-0 season and claimed another state title with an easy, 57-31 win over Madison Academy in the Class A championship game here Saturday.
The win was the last of three dominant victories in the Class A tourney for the Lady Buffaloes, who had earlier defeated Forrest 56-39 and Oliver Springs 53-26. They won their three state tournament games by an average of 23 points, only slightly below their season average.
Madison Academy had defeated District 7-A member Pickett County in the first round of the state tournament. Clarkrange had played three of the other seven Class A participants in the state tourney field earlier in the season–Forrest, Oliver Springs and Pickett County.
The Lady Buffaloes truly ran roughshod over the competition in 2008-09. Not only did they record a perfect season, only one team–district foe Jackson County–played them to within single digits (9 points). Clarkrange will lose four seniors to graduation–Tori Lowe, Hannah Green, (3-time district MVP) Tasha Phillips and Serena Snow. All are expected to play at the next level.
