CELINA-There were several sports-related measures passed when the Clay County school board met in regular session earlier in March. 

Several volunteer coaches were approved for the following teams: Celina K-8 junior high softball–Donnie Grace and Kim Grace; Clay County High track–Luke Collins and Mike Rich; and Clay County high girls basketball–Tara Anderson. 

The board also approved a softball game at Hermitage Springs on March 30 and at Celina K-8 on April 29 to be played during the day at 12:30 p.m.

The board approved a boys baseball team for grades 6-8 at Hermitage Springs, with Andrew Hall as coach and Brian Massey as a volunteer assistant coach. 

In other business, the board:

• Approved a motion to request bids for a dust collection system for the new shop at Clay County High School (see ad inside today’s paper),

• OKed a general purpose budget amendment,

• Approved three school trip requests, and

• Reviewed several board policies, and rescinded an old Booster Club policy.

In the monthly schools director report, Donnie Cherry commended the CCHS boys basketball team on their accomplishments, included advancing to sub-state (sectional) play, and reported on a meeting with state assistant education commissioner Robert Greene on the federal economic stimulus funds. The county should be receiving Title I and IDEA money by the end of April, the board minutes said.
