Clay Co. farmers expected to receive about $48,000
Clay County farmers are expected to receive about $48,000 within the next two weeks under the 1939 soil conservation program, according to an announcement made by Charles Vaughn, County Agent.
About 250 applications have already been sent to the state office in Nashville, and about that many more are to be sent, it was stated.

The annual county basketball tournament will be held in the Celina High School gymnasium on February 15-17, Frank Sidwell, principal of Celina High School has announced.
Six teams will take part in the meet. The Willow Grove boys team and the Celina High girls will be the defending champions.

The wedding of Ray B. Speck to Miss Marie Fiske was solemnized in Munfordville, Kentucky on Sunday, January 7, with the Rev. W.T. Jewell of the Baptist Church officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Mrs. W.D. Fiske of Celina and is a graduate of Celina High School.
The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Speck of Livingston. He is a graduate of Livingston Academy, and is an employee of McCormick Motor Co.

The Celina Baptist Church started the New Year with 39 in Sunday School inspite of snow and ice. Rev. Evic Tucker of Livingston brought a New Year message at 11 o’clock on Joshua 24:15. Mrs. Louisa Carroll, general missionary of the Baptist State Mission Board is spending the week in Celina.

Funeral services for W.F. Stone, 68, who died Friday morning on Dry Creek, where he had lived for the last few years, were held Saturday. Burial was in the Tinsley Bottom burial ground.

According to the most reliable reports, it is apparent that President Roosevelt will not consent to run for President for a third term. The most available man, according to those same reports, that the Democrats have is the Honorable Cordell Hull, who has all the qualifications required to make a great President.
He has served for seven years as secretary of state. In this high position, he has displayed great wisdom. He has kept the country out of war. Through his efforts the countries of North and South America have become united. His public record is one of achievement.
