Young men have opportunity to enlist in Army

America’s young men, 18 and 19 years old have an opportunity right now not open to any other age group – the right to enlist immediately and select one of the thirteen different branches of the Army in which to serve, it was pointed out today at headquarters, Fourth Service Command.

With a half-million pounds of scrap iron, 75,000 pounds of scrap rubber, and more than 1,000 pounds of aluminum to their credit before the inauguration of the Nashville Banner’s salvage drive, every Clay County citizen has become conscious of the nation’s need for war materials and is giving a helping hand to his favorite school in its effort to place in the Banner’s Contest and win prizes offered by the Clay County 4-H Clubs.

Miss Ruth Plumlee, the daughter of Mrs. E.M. Dale of Celina, became the bride of John Romans of Russellville, Alabama, at a private ceremony performed in Rossville, Georgia at 6:00 p.m. on October 11.

The bride is a graduate of Celina High School and Tennessee Polytechnic Institute, and taught in Celina High School several years.

Mr. Romans is a former employee of Morrison-Knudsen, Inc. and is now a member of a Naval Construction Company.

Promotion of Pvt. Robert L. Gunnels, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Gunnels of Celina, to the rank of Corporal has been announced by his commanding officer, First Lt. Louis C. Talley, Jr. of Company H. 117th Regiment.

The Arcot Home Demonstration Club met last week at the home of Mrs. Paul Stone with eight members and three visitors present.

The club planned to make another quilt and give it to the Red Cross. A nice assortments of candies were served.

The next meeting will be at Mrs. O.N. Cherry’s.

Mrs. Jack Warren visited relatives in Mt. Pleasant last week.

•

A revival is being conducted at the Celina Church of Christ this week.
