District 7-A softball tournament down to three; rain postpones play on Wednesday
CELINA-The field has been narrowed to three in the District 7-A softball tournament here this week, and Mother Nature finally interrupted play on Wednesday.
Three games were played on Monday and Tuesday, but rain forced the postponement of play on Wednesday, with three teams still left in the running for the tourney title.
The home-standing CCHS girls and Jackson County are still in the winner’s bracket, while top-seeded Red Boiling Springs is left in the loser’s bracket, having been upset in the first round by Jackson County.
There is a 30 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms this afternoon in the area, but weather permitting, the CCHS girls will face off against Jackson County at 4 p.m. There will be a loser’s bracket game immediately following that between the CCHS-JCHS loser and Red Boiling.
Clay County advanced in the winner’s bracket on Monday with a 9-2 win over Monterey, who was then eliminated by Pickett County 12-5 on Tuesday. Jackson County upset RBS 3-1 on Monday.
Forecasters are giving a 60 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms on Friday and Saturday.
