Clay County Fair is scheduled June 9-13
CELINA-A jam-packed schedule featuring a main event each night will highlight the Clay County Fair, set here June 9-13.
The Fairest of the Fair beauty pageant (see related story) and another event will actually kick off the fair week on Saturday, June 6, and the midway and nightly events will start on Tuesday, June 9.
The midway and all the fair events except the pageant will be held at the Clay County Recreational Park on the west bank of the Cumberland River.
The James Gang will provide the midway rides Tuesday through Saturday for the fourth consecutive year. James Gang Amusements is from Andalusia (AL), and provides midway entertainment across six states in the southeast. The midway will open at 6 p.m. each evening.
Many events set
Among the other events that will be held in connection with the fair are:
• SATURDAY: Mule pull, on June 6, beginning at 6 p.m.
• TUESDAY: The second annual Senior Day, on June 9, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will be held at the Women’s Building on the fairgrounds complex, and will include games, music, door prizes and a free lunch (several vendors will be on hand); youth 4-wheeler and motorcycle rodeo at 7 p.m.; bluegrass music on the baseball field at 6 p.m.
• WEDNESDAY: Flower and plant competition (with dozens of categories); quilt, craft and needlework show; canning and baked goods entries (all entries can be made from noon until 6 p.m.); kids’ night (free admission to school age students); 4-H entries for dozens of categories (10 a.m.-6:30 p.m.); Wild West Rodeo Show.
• THURSDAY: Wild mule show; 4-H sheep show at 6 p.m.
• FRIDAY; Quarter horse show at 6:30 p.m. (13 different classes); dog show at 6 p.m., with registration starting at 5:15 (11 categories).
• SATURDAY: Uncle Bud’s Tractor Pull at 3 p.m.; the “Pick Tennessee” Cook-Off (entries from 3-4:30, judging at 5); and an adult motorcycle and ATV rodeo at 7 p.m.
