Dale Hollow Lake is a vacation destination, which also receives an abundance of local and regional visitors-about 3 million a year. Each of these visitors will enter the lake through a gateway community:  Burkesville and Albany in Kentucky and Celina, Livingston, and Byrdstown in Tennessee.

The staff at Dale Hollow is committed to sharing the water safety message with our visitors.  And this summer, our gateway communities have joined us in this mission.  Many businesses around the lake volunteered their time and digital sign to promote random water safety slogans this past Memorial Day

weekend.  “Remember to Boat Safe, Boat Smart” was just one of the random slogans a business could choose.  Eleven businesses, lake wide, have made a commitment to share water safety messages this holiday as well as July 4th and Labor Day holidays.

“It is our goal that visitors to Dale Hollow hear the water safety message,” said Park Ranger Sondra Carmen.  “A drowning is preventable when persons stop and think, wear their life jacket, and play it safe while boating or swimming.  We are thrilled that our local communities and businesses are willing to join us in this cause to reduce water related fatalities.”    

Efforts such as this are making an impact.  Boating officers from the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources have verified that no significant boating incident occurred on Dale Hollow Lake over this past holiday weekend.  Together, our local businesses, State boating officers, and Corps rangers anticipate that the next busy boating day will be equally as accident free.  Any business or person that would like to participate in our water safety initiative or desires more
