Brown appointed chairman of “Fight Infantile Paralysis” campaign

W.F. Brown has been appointed chairman for Clay County in the 1940 “Fight Infantile Paralysis” campaign.

 

The county chairman was named by Arthur Carpenter, Knoxville, Tennessee, regional director of the committee for the celebration of President Roosevelt’s birthday.

 

In Clay County it will be known as the “March of Dimes.”

The 18th annual meeting of the Association of Tennessee Fairs will be held at Nashville February 6, O.D. Massa of Cookeville, secretary-treasurer has announced.

 

The first session will be held at the Noel Hotel at 1 o’clock on February 6, presided over by A.U. Taylor of Jackson, president of the association.

A 4-H Club was organized in Celina High School Tuesday, January 16, 1940. Fourteen members were enrolled and the following officers were elected: President, Lucille Waddell; Secretary, Frances Kyle. The next meeting will be sometime in February.

Oil was tapped last week on the farm of Will Hay, a mile east of Willow Grove.

 

W.C. Koger and James Ledbetter, who drilled the well, said the pay sand was reached at 726 feet, and would produce 200 barrels of oil daily.

 

Contract for the second test on the Hay farm has already been signed and the rig is expected to be moved to the new location this week.

Ray “Tuscon” Corrigan, star of “The Three Mesquiteers” will appear in person at the RITZ THEATRE, Livingston, Tennessee Saturday, January 20.

On January 4, Mrs. John Boad passed away, funeral services were conducted at the Camp Ground by B.P. Watson.

 

Ray Boles, son of William Boles, is visiting his parents.

 

Mrs. Maud Huffin held the lucky ticket at Ward and Upton’s and received $5.00. George Copeland won $2.50.

 

We have had lots of bad and rough weather.

 

Nothing more of interest to report except the sick folks are feeling better.
