Homecoming Days just a week away
CELINA-The annual Homecoming Days celebration is set to begin next Thursday, with a variety of events scheduled to run July 30-August 1.
A schedule very similar to last year’s has been announced, with a thumbnail sketch of each day’s events listed below.
Crafts and food will be available each day on the square. There will be live music at the square on Thursday and Friday nights, with music beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday and lasting well into the night.
A brief look at each day’s events:
Thursday, July 30
8 a.m.-Crafts on the square,
9 a.m.-Accepting entries for quilt show,
11 a.m.-Cattlemen’s Association ribeye cookout and food booths on the square,
2 p.m.-Bell ringing at the Clay County Museum,
4 p.m.-Dunking booth sponsored by the Clay County Rescue Squad on the square,
5 p.m.-Hillbilly lawn mower parade, beginning at Happy Sak, (Immediately after parade-One minute spaghetti eating contest),
6:30 p.m.-Cake walk on the square, and
8 p.m.-Live music on the square with Steel House.
Friday, July 31
8 a.m.-Crafts on the square,
9 a.m.-Quilt and handicraft show (to be announced),
11 a.m.-Cattlemen’s Association ribeye cookout and food booths on the square,
4 p.m.-Dunking booth (Rescue Squad) on the square,
6 p.m.-Cow patty contest on the square,
7 p.m. Auction on the square, (Any group wishing to have an item auctioned must see Mary Loyd Reneau by 6 p.m.), and
7:30 p.m.-Live music with Speed Limit and marble tournament on the square.
Saturday, August 1
7-10 a.m.-Health fair 2009 at Cumberland River Hospital,
8 a.m.-Craft markets on the square, car show (see Johnny Brown) and antique tractor show at the old high school,
9 a.m.-Quilt and handicraft show (to be announced),
10:30 a.m.-Local book authors signing on the square,
11 a.m.-Cattlemen’s Association ribeye cookout and food booths on the square, antique tractor parade on the square,
12 p.m.-Dunking booth (Rescue Squad) on the square,
1-4:30 p.m.-Live music on the square with Committed, Bilbrey’s, and Slow Gold–sound by James Arnett,
2 p.m.-Mighty Duck Race on Cumberland River Bridge, and
6:30 p.m.-Live music on the square with Crossfire band, continuing throughout the night.
