Social Security will become law in state this week

Social Security in all phases will become the law of Tennessee this week with the signature of Governor Gordon Browning.

 

The measures, drafted and sponsored by the governor, include: 

 

1. Old age pensions to a maximum of $25 per month, depending upon the actual needs and living conditions of the aged.

 

2. Aid for dependent children up to $12 per month, depending on the ability of parents, relatives or guardians to support children.

 

3. Aid for the blind over 16 years of age, a maximum of $25 per month, depending upon the need.

 

4. Transfer of eligible Confederate veterans and veteran’s widows to the old-age rolls, with the supplement from veteran’s pensions where necessary.

Mrs. Mary Hubbard Srygley, 72, wife of F.B. Srygley, Church of Christ minister and associate editor of the Gospel Advocate, and mother of several sons and daughters prominent in educational affairs, died at her home in Nashville Monday morning, February 8.

The annual basketball tournament between the three high schools of the county will be held next Monday and Tuesday night, it has been announced.

Mrs. Alex Spear of Celina announces the marriage of her daughter, Mattie to Lester Snyder of Toledo, Ohio, which was solemnized Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Snyder will make their home in Toledo.

School is progressing nicely and there’s quite a stir of excitement over the coming spelling bee.

 

Both ball teams went to Livingston Thursday night. The girls were defeated, the boys won by the score of 46-15. The boys will play Lipscomb at Nashville on Saturday night.

 

John Craft has returned from Florida.

 

Elise Hill, who is working in Indianapolis, is visiting home folks. 

 

Joe Arms recently purchased a lot from Bill Smith and will erect a new store house, cafe and barber shop.
