Clay County boys win one at home, one on the road
MONTEREY-The Clay County Bulldogs picked up their second relatively easy win of last week in their first district contest of the year here Friday night.
The Bulldogs used a big second-quarter margin to defeat the Wildcats in the 7-A opener, after having pulled away for an easy win at home against Red Boiling earlier in the week.
The Dawgs were scheduled to play at Clarkrange last night in district action. They will then host three straight games before the Christmas break, and travel to Monticello (KY) for a holiday tournament Dec. 28-30.
The Bulldogs were 3-1 heading into last night’s games.

CELINA-Clay County got a combined 39 points from Caleb Lynn and Shawn Garrett and pulled away in the second half for a fairly easy non-district win.
The two Bulldog squads played on fairly even terms during the first half, but Clay County outscored the visitors 33-19 in the final two stanzas to grab their second win of the season.
Lynn scored 21 points in the contest to lead the effort, while Garrett chipped in 18.
CCHS led 15-12 after the first quarter, and also held a 28-22 halftime lead. That lead reached double-digits after three quarters, and a 19-10 last-quarter bulge moved the final margin out to 20 points.

It was the first game between the two squads as members of different districts in several decades, possibly the first meeting ever.

MONTEREY-The second quarter basically decided the verdict here, as the Bulldogs shook off a bit of a sluggish start.
Trailing 16-10 after one, CCHS lit up the scoreboard for 25 points in the second quarter to take control of the game. They also limited the host Wildcats to only seven points in the second quarter to grab a 35-23 lead at intermission.
The Dawgs added to their margin in each of the final two quarters to win by 17.
Trent Boles led the scoring effort with a season-high 18, followed by Garrett with 15 and Lynn with 10.
