Bulldogs split pair of games; pick up important 7-A road win
The Clay County High boys basketball team split a pair of games last week, winning a crucial district game at Clarkrange, and losing a game against old region foe Friendship in the closing seconds at home.
The District 7-A win against the Buffaloes will enable the Bulldogs to carry a 2-0 district mark into the New Year, with no more conference games set until January 8.
The Clay County teams were set to host Gordonsville last night, and to host Trousdale County on Saturday evening in their last action before the holiday break.
The Bulldogs were 4-2 heading into Tuesday night’s game.

The Bulldogs broke open a close game after three quarters to rack up their second district win of the season against no losses.
The Buffaloes, always tough at home, held a one-point lead after three quarters, but the Bulldogs saved their best for last, outscoring the hosts 19-8 in the fourth to grab the victory.
Clay County led 10-9 after one, and 19-13 at intermission in the low-scoring first half. Clarkrange rebounded with a nice third quarter, outscoring the Dawgs 16-9 to take a one-point lead before CCHS put the game away with a solid fourth quarter.
Trent Boles led the Bulldog offensive effort with 17, and was joined in double figures by Caleb Lynn with 11.

The two old regional rivals locked up in a tooth and nail battle, which was close all the way.
The Commanders nailed a pair of free throws to break a 42-42 tie with 12.9 seconds left. The Bulldogs were able to launch a potential game-winning three-pointer, but it hit the back or the rim and came out, giving FCS the win.
Neither team was able to outscore the other by more than three points in any given quarter. FCS won the first, second and four quarters by a combined five points, while the Bulldogs had a three-point bulge in the third quarter to tie the game heading into the fourth quarter.
Friendship led 11-10 after one, and 26-23 at the half. The score was tied at 35 after three.
Shawn Garrett led the Dawg scoring with 13, and was joined in double figures by Brian Korth with 12.
