GAINESBORO-After defeating conference foe Pickett County, Trousdale County, and Gordonsville last week, the CCHS boy’s basketball team had the chance to clinch the top seed in the upcoming District 7A tournament set to start next week with a win at Jackson County here Tuesday night.

They entered the contest with an undefeated conference record of 6-0, but the Blue Devils boasted the second-place mark of 5-2.  If the Dawgs fell to Jackson County, they would put themselves in a must-win situation against Clarkrange Thursday night in order to become the regular-season district champions and claim the top seed in the tournament.

With a pair of losses this week, CCHS would be tied with the Blue Devils at the top, with the tie-breaker coming from a coin flip.  If the Dawgs top both Jackson County and the Buffaloes, they will claim the conference championship with an unblemished 8-0 mark.

Besides the two district games, CCHS will finish the season at Macon County next Monday night, before heading to the tournament in Livingston later that week.

The Clay County High School boy’s basketball team notched a come-from-behind victory at Pickett County last week by a slim five-point margin.

The Dawgs found themselves down by a dozen points at halftime, but they came out of the locker room on fire, outscoring the Bobcats 17-5 in the third to tie the game at 39 heading into the final period.

CCHS put up a healthy 20 points in the fourth quarter on their way to the 59-54 win to improve to 6-0 in district play.

Caleb Lynn led the Dawgs in scoring with 19, Trent Boles had 16, and Shawn Garrett put 15 on the board in the contest.

The Dawgs jumped out to 25-point lead in the first half over Trousdale County last week and they poured it on to take the 59-24 win.

Trent Boles lead CCHS with 15 points and nine other Bulldogs were listed in the scoring column for the game.

Gordonsville…………65

Trent Boles scored 26 points to lead CCHS over Gordonsville last Friday night, despite Tiger Josh Sapp’s 25 point showing.

The Dawgs trailed at the half by a score of 34-28, but they outscored Gordonsville 23-9 in the third quarter to take control of the game.

Senior guard Joe Adams complemented Boles’ effort with an additional 16 points in the game and Caleb Lynn made his presence known by scoring an even dozen to help CCHS improve to an overall record of 18-4.
