CELINA-City officials here this week released a statement encouraging residents to remain in compliance with the municipality’s nuisance ordinance, which defines “the accumulation of trash, rubbish, and other debris,” or the existence of “overgrown vegetation” as being non-compliant.

The ordinance says the nuisance “must be corrected by mowing, the removal of trash, rubbish, or other debris.”

The statement also said those who fail to comply with the order may face a number of “options” the city may take–which are contained in the ordinance, “one of which is for the city to enter upon the landowner’s premises and take the necessary corrective action at the landowner’s cost.”

City mayor Willie Kerr said the ordinance “was passed for a reason” and he personally encouraged those that may be non-compliant to work towards becoming compliant with the ordinance.

“We hope that all city residents will take pride in the community as we do and help us maintain an attractive and inviting atmosphere here in town,” Kerr said.  “First impressions mean a lot and we want visitors and residents to be proud of how Celina looks.”

Celina trash to be picked up Monday

Despite the Memorial Day holiday being next Monday, city officials announced this week the town’s sanitation truck will run a regular schedule that day.

City hall will be closed for the holiday, but trash will be picked up Monday, May 31.
