Five Dawgs honored on all-region football team
Five Clay County High players, four of them seniors, were members of the All-Region 4-1A football team when it was announced recently.
Bulldog seniors T.J. Key, Nolan Dale, Scott Brown, and Jordan Melton and junior Matt Brown were members of the all-region team.
Key ran for 676 yards with 11 touchdowns and a huge 11.9 yards per carry average, and scored twice on kickoff returns.
Dale had just under 1,000 yards in total offense running the Bulldog offense and accounted for 10 scores running and throwing. He also intercepted six passes on the year, tied for the lead in the Upper Cumberland.
Jordan Melton recorded 58 tackles, three sacks, a fumble recovery and a fumble caused on defense.
Scott Brown ran for 363 yards despite missing four games on offense due to injury, and added 56 tackles and two defensive scores.
Matt Brown rushed for 667 yards and 12 scores and had over 100 tackles on defense, also being named the Herald-Citizen’s top defensive player in the area.
Watertown’s Blaze Eaton was named the region’s MVP, with Friendship Christian’s Lee Maasen the top offensive player. Trousdale County’s Austin Dillon was the top defensive player, and Yellow Jacket kicker Jared White was the top special teams player.
