Whether you are deep into country, write your own rap or just whistle happy tunes, the American Red Cross wants you to roll up your sleeves and donate blood this summer.

All those coming to donate at an “And the Beat Goes On” themed blood drive will receive a music-inspired T-shirt as a thanks for your donation. Wear it to remind others that the need for blood is especially high in the summer. Together we can help make sure the beat goes on for those who will need life-saving blood.

Locally, you can donate blood on Tuesday, June 23, from 12 noon to 5 p.m. at Cumberland River Hospital located at 100 Old Jefferson Highway in Celina.

Summer months are typically difficult on the community’s blood supply and the Red Cross urges not only music lovers but everyone to call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (1-800-448-3543) or visit bloodisneeded.org to make an appointment to help save a life.

Fewer than eight percent of the healthy, eligible citizens in the United States who can donate actually do. And there is a constant need for blood.

“So, come on out, roll up a sleeve and give blood to help keep the beat of life going on,” said Steve Beeler, Tennessee Valley Region CEO. “Afterwards, you will feel like a star, no matter what kind of music you enjoy.”

You need to be in good health, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be at least 17 years old (16 with signed American Red Cross parental consent form). Please bring a picture ID to donate.
