Annual Roller Coaster Yard Sale around the corner
The 26th Annual Roller Coaster Yard Sale is just around the corner, and organizers want to remind people here to make plans to set up for the event or plan their route to enjoy the sale.
“You can start and end anywhere along the route you choose, but we encourage you to explore the entire route across the miles of rolling hills and hollows surrounding Dale Hollow Lake from September 29-October 1,” an organizer said. “This sale is the oldest and most authentic marathon yard sale in Tennessee and/or Kentucky.
“It offers a unique opportunity for patrons to see the countryside and find treasures along the way.”
There are over 150 miles of treasures to discover in one of the most scenic areas of rural Tennessee and Kentucky just as the autumn patchwork is making its debut.
Not only are there yard sales galore, but there are so many little shops and eateries located along the route that are truly treasures in themselves.
This is an excellent time to plan sales to maximize traffic and it’s a great opportunity for civic organizations to plan fund raisers. Individual yard sales can be listed for free on the internet at www.garagesalestracker.com.
The event began in Temple Hill, KY on Hwy. 63 (Cordell Hull Hwy.) in 1986 to encourage improvements to the windy road. Today, the sale still rolls on from Temple Hill to Freedom, KY to points north and south–traveling north onto Glasgow and Cave City and/or Hwy. 90 to the east through many scenic rural communities and the town of Burkesville onto Albany, KY.
In Albany, the route swings south onto Hwy. 127 to the TN/KY border where it turns onto Hwy. 111 through more rural communities, Byrdstown, and Livingston, TN.
In Livingston, the route turns back to the north on Hwy. 52 meandering through the majestic countryside to Celina and then on to Moss where the route turns North on Hwy. 51 to Kentucky Hwy. 163 to Tompkinsville and then back onto Hwy. 63 completing the route back to Temple Hill.
The unique loop route allows everyone the opportunity to start and finish at the same place or any point they wish.
Many of the communities offer special events to compliment the Roller Coaster Yard Sale.
There are car shows in Burkesville, KY and Byrdstown, TN, an Antique Tractor & Truck Pull and Pancake Breakfast in Celina, TN, Mud Lick Bar-B-Que will be available in Mud Lick, KY, the 29th Annual Edmonton Pumpkin Festival in Edmonton, KY, live bluegrass music, Horsemen’s Association Flea Market, and the Dale Hollow Bass Classic Fishing Tournament in Byrdstown, TN with possible additional events to be added through the coming weeks. Be sure to check the events calendar at www.RollercoasterFair.com for all the latest additions.
