Another top five team invades Clay County: Trousdale’s Yellow Jackets
CELINA-Defending state champ Trousdale County travels here tonight, providing Clay County its second top five 2A opponent in three weeks.
The Yellow Jackets, who took the Class 1A title last year, are now competing in the 2A playoff classification along with region member Friendship Christian, who humbled the Bulldogs here two weeks ago.
In the latest Associated Press poll, Friendship was ranked second statewide in 2A, with Trousdale County third. Boyd Buchanan held down the top spot.
The Yellow Jackets bring a 3-1 record here tonight, losing only to Mayfield (KY), 48-40. In their other three outings, they have beaten Macon County 49-34, Jackson County 59-21 and Gordonsville 49-19. Trousdale did not play last week.
The defending champs are led offensively by running backs Tacola Seay and Tyler Edwards, and quarterback Dillon Young. Seay is the Jackets’ leading rusher with 44 carries for 379 yards and five scores. Edwards has carried 51 times for 411 yards and four TDs. Joey Cox has added 135 yards on 27 carries.
Young has completed 12 of 28 passes for 277 yards and four scores. Seven different Trousdale players have caught passes, led by Josh Payne with four grabs for 99 yards and a pair of scores.
Clay County brings a 3-1 record into the contest, falling only to Friendship.
