Bailey elected to Clay County School board chairmanship

HERMITAGE SPRINGS-During their September meeting here, school board members elected a new chairman.Minutes showed current chairman David West nominated Benji Bailey and board member Nathan Sherrell “made a motion that all nominations cease and that Mr. Bailey be elected by acclimation.”
Minutes explained board member Chris McLerran seconded Sherrell’s motion and “all members voted aye” electing Bailey the new chairman.
Nominations for vice chairman were then taken with current vice-chair Anthony Smith being nominated by McLerran and Veda Hix being nominated by Vonda Weir.
Minutes chronicled the voting as follows: voting for Smith were himself, McLerran, Bailey, Todd Upton, Todd Lynn, and Christina Crawford. Voting no were Sherrell, West, Weir, and Hix. Smith was elected vice chairman by the 6-4 vote.
Board members also voted to:
• “approve the 2016-2017 school calendar,”
• “approve Farm Safety Day for Celina K-8 and Hermitage Springs 5th graders on September 22, with a make-up day of September 23,” and
• “approve Jordan Collins as an assistant Jr. High football coach at Celina K-8.”
