Bailey, Weir to again lead school board
CELINA-Benji Bailey retained his title of chairman of the Clay County School Board last month and Vonda Weir was also re-elected as vice-chair, according to recently released minutes from the board’s September meeting.
Minutes show Veda Hix nominated Bailey, before a motion “that all nominations cease and elect Mr. Bailey as chair” was made by David West, was then seconded by Nathan Sherrell, and “carried with a voice vote.”
West then nominated Weir as the vice-chair, Sherrell made a motion “that all nominations cease and elect Ms. Weir as vice-chair,” West seconded, and “the motion carried with a voice vote.” minutes said.
In other business, the school board also voted to:
• table the consideration of the 2020-2021 School Calendar;
• approve a bid from Trinity 3 Technology for 70 Dell OptiPlex 5060 desktop computers for $849 each totaling $59,430;
• approve a trip request for Clay County High School (10-15 students) to go to the Dale Hollow Dam Campground for an environmental camp, retroactive to September 10-12, 2019;
• approve the following policies on 1st reading—Revised Policy 1.101 Role of the Board of Education, Revised Policy 1.202 Duties of Board Members, New Policy 1.2021 Boardsmanship Code of Conduct and Revised Policy 2.601 Fundraising Activities; and
• approve the Revised Policy 6.308 Bus Safety and Conduct policy on 2nd reading.
