Dawg air show lands victory over Taft
By THOMAS P. WEAVER HORIZON EditorCELINA-From the opening play of the game, the 2011 Clay County Bulldogs left no questions about their potential in the minds of a good home crowd here last Friday night in their season-opening 33-8 win over Taft Youth Center.
The Dawgs recovered the fumbled kickoff in Tiger territory and scored seven plays later to jump-start their season, but it was a trio of touchdown passes from junior starting quarterback Alex McLerran that put the game away for CCHS.
McLerran found paydirt on a pair of tosses to junior wideout Jacob Marcom on consecutive drives in the first half and also hooked up with Corey Hamilton early in the third quarter to cap off his good night in the pocket.
Fortunately for Taft, the Bulldog signal-caller’s attempts were limited (3/7, 103 yds) thanks to the lopsided score and the touchdowns were the only three passes he completed on the night or the margin of victory could’ve been even larger.
