Clay County awarded grant to help improve EMA service
CELINA, TN-Clay County has been awarded funds to make improvements to the Emergency Management Agency Department here through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program administered by the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (ECD).
Clay County was one of the 70 statewide recipients of grant funds through the CDBG program, which assists communities with infrastructure improvements, health and safety initiatives and façade improvements in downtown commercial districts.
The grant totaling $222,660 will allow the county to purchase two new cardiac monitors and a new ambulance. The new monitors will replace two existing cardiac monitors that are 10 and 12 years old, one of which is not compliant with Tennessee Emergency Management Services standards as of July 1, 2018. The county will also be replacing one of their current ambulance models that has more than 200,000 miles on it.
“This is a win for our county,” county mayor Dale Reagan said. “The safety of our citizens is top priority, and this grant will allow us to make needed improvements to our ambulance service.
“This is the third CDBG we’ve received since 2010 and we are very blessed.”
The county worked with the Upper Cumberland Development District staff through the CDBG application process.
“These grants make a significant impact on our Upper Cumberland communities,” Upper Cumberland Development District Executive Director Mark Farley said. “They move projects forward, make our communities more resilient and help them plan for the future.
“We are honored to assist in these efforts and commend forward-thinking communities like Clay County, who are preparing a better future for their citizens.”
The Upper Cumberland Region was awarded ten grants in the CDBG program totaling $3,868,900. The Upper Cumberland Development District assisted Clay County and four other recipients in the application process totaling $1,293,900 dollars received in grant funds.
