Clay County Extension News:
Cow Patty Contest set during Museum Festival
CELINA-Participants could win $500 during the Clay County Museum Festival by entering the annual Cow Patty Contest to be held here August 3 on the historic courthouse square.
“Join in on the excitement,” local extension agent Kristen Rich said. “We want you to be there at 6 p.m. to cheer on your cow!”
To get in on the fun, participants must purchase a ticket available at the Clay County Extension Office.
Ticket numbers are then drawn randomly and placed in a fenced grid on the square, into which cows are released and encouraged to take a “poo,” as Rich described it.
Cows are then cheered on for 30 minutes, and if nothing happens during the time period, sudden death begins—where time is stopped immediately upon a cow taking a “poo.”
Finally the “poo” is collected and weighed.
“Don’t worry, we have a great team of expert ‘poo’ weighers that will take care of this part!” Rich explained. “If there are several squares with ‘poo’ on the numbers, we carefully examine, scoop, and weigh the ‘poo’ for you!
“The heaviest ‘poo’ wins $500! We hope everyone purchases a ticket and meets us there to support your local 4-H and your local Cattlemen’s association!”
Landscape meeting set
A meeting called “Best Management Practices for the Home Landscape” will be held here at the Clay County Extension office Thursday, July 25.
“The best time to landscape your home is fall,” Rich said. “Get prepared to landscape by attending this meeting focused on trees and shrubs in the home landscape!”
The informative meeting begins at 6 p.m., it is free, and finger foods will be provided.
Attendees are asked to RVSP to the extension office by calling 931-243-2311, which is the same number they can inquire about Cow Patty Contest tickets.
