Commission delays action on motel tax, OKs regional jail authority
CELINA-Clay County commissioners revisited, but postponed, action on a possible motel tax and approved a Regional Jail Authority in action at their January meeting.
Commissioners discussed and heard statements from audience members on a possible “hotel occupancy tax,” which has been proposed, but never enacted, by the legislative body. In the end, commissioners voted to postpone any action on the matter until the next commission planning meeting, scheduled for January 26.
Commissioners also passed a resolution establishing a Regional Jail Authority with Pickett, Overton and Fentress counties to determine “by feasibility study whether a regional jail would be appropriate and beneficial” to the four counties.
