Copeland, Garrett are named Bulldog players of the week in win over Taft
Bulldog football players Matt Copeland and Shawn Garrett have been named the HORIZON players of the week for their efforts in the season-opening win over Taft Youth Center.
Copeland, a junior linebacker, tied for the team lead with five solo tackles (unofficially) and recovered two fumbles to lead a defensive effort that saw the Bulldogs hold Taft to only 43 total yards. He was injured late in the contest, but is expected to play next week against Monterey. The Bulldogs have an open date this week.
Garrett, playing football for the first time in three seasons, hauled in a pair of touchdown passes from quarterback Marshall Burch in the first half. The two catches covered 35 and 30 yards. Garrett also had three kick returns for 72 yards against Taft.
The HORIZON will announce the player(s) of the week here each Thursday during the season.
