Crosses to be displayed on square today

‘Formation of Honor’ to go up for 15th consecutive year
CELINA-The American Legion Post 18 will continue their efforts to honor local heroes with their annual “formation of honor” here over the Memorial Day holiday for the 15th consecutive year.
“We will be placing our 620 memorial crosses displaying 1,240 names on Celina city square, Thursday, May 22, 2025,” local post officials said. “The crosses commemorate the deceased veterans of Clay County, Tennessee.
“If you are able and wanting to help honor our deceased comrades with this display, you are very welcome to join us,” they continued, before announcing where volunteers can offer their services. “Post 18 will meet at our storage container, located at the lot to the East of the Clay County Community Center/Courthouse, at 8 a.m. on the 22nd.”
The display of crosses bearing the names, branches of service, and conflicts served of deceased Clay County veterans include those who meet one of the following criteria:
• buried in Clay County,
• died in combat and was buried in a foreign country,
• buried in any state or national veterans cemetery;
• whose remains have been cremated, or
• is a veteran belonging to Post 18.
