Dawgs named to all-star football team
CELINA-Five Clay County High football players were recently named to the District 7-A all-star team, and a pair of those have also been named to the Herald-Citizen All-Upper Cumberland team.
Nick Stephens, Dylan Collins, Nick Cox, Justin Owens and Corey Hamilton were named to the District 7 all-star team in some capacity, while Stephens and Collins were named to the All-UC team. Matt Copeland, Matt Rich and Todd Scott were honorable mention on the district squad.
The Herald-Citizen team included area teams from all classifications. Stephens made the first-team defense on the All-UC squad, while Collins made second-team defense.
Cox won the special teams award on the District 7 squad, while Hamilton was named freshman of the year.
Former Bulldogs Matt and Dickie Brown were honored for their standout season at York on the All-UC team. Matt was named co-defensive player of the year in the UC, while his father was named coach of the year. Both won those honors in 2008 at CCHS.
