RED BOILING SPRINGS-The Clay County Bulldogs improved to 7-1 with a 60-8 rout of Red Boiling Springs here last Friday night.
The Dawgs scored four different ways in the victory, including rushing and passing touchdowns, pick-six interceptions, and a kickoff return touchdown.
Senior quarterback Nolan Adams and his classmate cousin Reece Adams had two rushing touchdowns each and both rushed for over 100 yards in the contest.
Playing in just his sixth game of the season, Nolan Adams also eclipsed the 1,000-yard rushing mark. Additionally, he threw a touchdown to senior Bryson Sharp and returned an interception for a score.
Senior Waylon Cherry was responsible for the kickoff return touchdown and freshman Brentley Long also had a pick-six in the blowout win.
The scoring started with a Nolan Adams 61-yard touchdown run. He then returned his interception 35 yards to pay-dirt, before finding Sharp from 19 yards out for his third score and racing 31 yards for his second rushing touchdown.
Reece Adams also scored a two-yard rushing touchdown and a pair of two-point conversions, and Nolan Adams and Cherry added two-pointers to run the halftime tally to 38-0.
A second rushing touchdown from two yards out by Reece Adams opened the second half and Nolan Adams tacked on the conversion, before Red Boiling finally dented the scoreboard.
They ran for six and converted their two-point conversion on Clay County’s reserve defense to narrow their deficit to 46-8, but Cherry raced 80 yards to the house on the ensuing kickoff.
The special teams touchdown, paired with sophomore Isaiah Burnette’s two point conversion run, put the Dawgs back up 54-8, before Long’s 35-yard pick-six accounted for the final margin.
