Early voting in city election continues through May 28
CELINA-Early voting for the June city election is underway and will continue through May 28.
City voters not voting early will go to the polls on June 2 to elect a mayor and three aldermen. Incumbent mayor Buddy Thompson is challenged by Willie Kerr and Rush Rich, while there are six candidates in the aldermen’s race.
Longtime incumbent alderman Donnie Long and fellow alderman Don Haston are both seeking re-election, and will be running against Joey Locke, Zac Dale, Bill Donaldson and Pat Burton.
663 voters casting ballots in the mayor’s race in 2005, while there was a total of 1,616 votes in the aldermen’s race, where voters can cast ballots for up to three candidates. Only 378 votes were cast in the city election eight years ago.
Election officials said there are 1,270 eligible voters this year.
