Ernest Cancel Birdwell, 88

RED BOILING SPRINGS-Funeral Services for Ernest Cancel Birdwell, age 88, of the Hermitage Springs Community in Clay County, TN were conducted Thursday afternoon, October 21, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. from the Anderson & Son Funeral Home Chapel in Red Boiling Springs, TN with Mickey Clements officiating. Interment followed in The Mt. Vernon Cemetery.  Honorary Pallbearers were all of the employees of the former Birdwell Electric & Plumbing.  Active Pallbearers were his family & friends.

Ernest Cancel Birdwell passed away Saturday evening, October 16, 2010 at the Skyline Medical Center in Nashville. 

He was born Sunday, April 2, 1922 in Clay County, TN, the son of the late Herod and Lucy Browning Birdwell, Sr.   In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Bea Carnahan, Beulah Grissom, Laura Cherry and brothers, Ulysses, Clure, Arnold, Herod and Carlos Birdwell.  On April 5, 1947, he married the former Evelyn Cherry, who survives.  Ernest and Evelyn owned & operated the former Birdwell Electric & Plumbing in Hermitage Springs for 26 years.  He was a member of the Board of Advisors for the Bank of Celina and was a World War II veteran where he proudly served his country.

Survivors besides his wife, Evelyn of 63 years include: son & daughter-in-law, Jerry & Jane Birdwell, Goodlettsville, grandsons, Neil Birdwell, Knoxville, Michael Birdwell, Nashville, Brian Moore, Millersville, granddaughter, Shannon Taylor, Nashville, great-grandchildren, Rachel & Kristen Taylor, Forrest & Adison Moore, Gavin Culwell, sister, Zelma Bean, Indianapolis, IN.
