CELINA-Work on a stream bank stabilization project commissioned by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service that was projected to be completed in mid-June has been extended into July 2011. This project, funded from the Visitor Facilities Enhancement Fund, provides stream bank stabilization, elimination of excessive erosion and construction of an ADA accessible fishing pier.

During construction public access to the fishing area below the Dale Hollow National Fish Hatchery and the Corps of Engineers’ walking trail is restricted. Fishing is only permitted above the footbridges that cross the walking trail; between the bridges and the hatchery outfall. Heavy machinery placing gabion baskets and riprap make conditions too hazardous to allow open public access to the area of the stream and the walking trail below the two footbridges.

Until further notice, access to the area (trail, stream and river shoreline) needs to be granted from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Dale Hollow Dam Campground or from the public parking area trailhead located adjacent to Highway 53. If accessing the trail from Highway 53, walkers have open use to the right arm of the trail leading to the Obey River; the left arm of the trail leading the outfall stream is closed. Fishermen may also use the public parking area, located in front of the main hatchery administration building. The Corps regrets any inconvenience, but these precautions are necessary in the interest of public safety.
