Freshman Waters gets player of the week nod again
Freshman backup runner Mitch Waters has been named the HORIZON player of the week for the second time this season for his efforts in the second half against Trousdale County.
Waters ripped off the biggest play for Clay County on the night on his only carry, going for 41 yards.
All the backup Clay County runners performed well in their action against Trousdale County in last week’s loss to the defending state champs.
In fact, an all-freshman backfield was in place on most of the drive that netted the only TD of the night for CCHS. In addition to Water’s big run, freshman fullback William Meadows got the Bulldog score on a one-yard plunge. Corey Hamilton had two carries for 12 yards, while Brett Stuart had a nice 13-yard run. Alex McLerran had two carries for five yards and completed two passes to Jessie York for 17 yards.
The backup Bulldog runners wound up with 10 carries for 78 yards, close to two-thirds of the CCHS rushing total for the game.
