Friendship Christian crushes Clay County
CELINA-The Friendship Christian Commanders scored on the first play from scrimmage and never looked back, keeping their early-season record spotless with a 58-0 dismantling of Clay County here Friday night.
The Commanders scored only 17 seconds into the contest on a 78-yard scoring strike from Lee Maasen to John Markham. They recovered a fumble on a short ensuing kickoff and moved 41 yards in only two plays to go up 14-0 with exactly a minute gone in the game. Only three minutes later, they tallied again to lead 21-0.
By the quarter’s end, the Commanders had exploded for 35 points. It was 51-0 at intermission as Friendship scored two more touchdowns, one on defense, and added a field goal.
FCS held Clay County to minus yardage in the first half. The Bulldogs picked up their initial first down of the game in the third quarter, and wound up with 50 total yards.
Friendship moved to 4-0 with the win, and the Commanders have now outscored their four opponents 187-15 in 2009.
The loss dropped Clay County to 2-1 on the season. The Bulldogs will host Red Boiling Springs next Friday for homecoming, while the Commanders will travel to Jackson County.
