Increased TVA power rates now in effect across the region
CLAY COUNTY-Effective October 1, 2024, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) will be implementing a 5.25% increase in wholesale power rates to all distributors including Tri-County Electric.
“Tri-County Electric will pass the TVA increase through to its members, resulting in an increase of approximately $4.50 per month for the average residential customer using 1,250 kWh per month,” the local cooperative said. “In addition to the aforementioned TVA increase, Tri-County Electric will be implementing a rate adjustment that will increase the monthly customer charge by $3, while decreasing the kilowatt hour rate.
“The overall effect of this adjustment will be zero for members using the average of 1,250 kWh per month. The adjustment will provide savings to members during the higher usage periods of the winter and summer.”
Tri-County Electric provides power to residents here and serves all or part of other counties, including Allen, Cumberland, Metcalfe, Monroe, Adair, Barren, Clinton and Warren in Kentucky, and Macon, Trousdale, Sumner, Jackson, Overton and Smith in Tennessee.
They are among the largest cooperatives in Kentucky and Tennessee and provide a wide-range of services to our 53,000+ members-owners.
The local cooperative has 19 substations and almost 5,500 miles of distribution line, covering a service area of roughly 1,800 square miles.
Tri-County Electric was founded in 1937 in Lafayette, before expanding to Celina in 1939 and into Kentucky soon thereafter.
