Jewell Copas Birdwell
RED BOILING SPRINGS – Funeral Services for Jewell Copas Birdwell, age 89, of the Mt. Vernon Community in Clay County, TN were conducted Monday afternoon, August 30, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from the Anderson & Son Funeral Home Chapel in Red Boiling Springs, TN with E. C. Meadows and Glen Crowe officiating. Interment followed in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Tompkinsville, KY. Honorary Pallbearers were her great-grandsons. Active Pallbearers were Donnie Birdwell, Kenny Birdwell, Don Stevens, Jackie Stevens, John Birdwell and Tom Simons.
Jewell Copas Birdwell passed away Saturday morning, August 28, 2010 at the Monroe County Medical Center in Tompkinsville, KY.
She was born Monday, January 24, 1921 in Clay County, Tennessee, one of fourteen siblings of the late Edward and Daisy Copas. On December 17, 1937, she married Arnold Birdwell, who preceded her in death on September 30, 2006. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Donald Stevens, great-grandson, Jessie Donald Stevens, sisters, Nannie Long, Florence Browning, Alene Copas, Marie Cherry Rich, Pauline Bean and brothers, M.A., Millard, Carlos, Clure and Jim Copas. Jewell was a homemaker and a member of the Mt. Vernon Church of Christ.
Survivors include: daughters, Coleda Stevens (Neal) Jenkins, Red Boiling Springs, Nelda (Lemuel) Allen, Old Hickory, Denise (Shawn) Carroll, Manchester; sons, Kenneth (Creola) Birdwell, Hermitage Springs, Dayton (Brenda) Birdwell, Tompkinsville, KY; sister, Nellie Browning, Red Boiling Springs, brothers, Pleas ( Mildred) Copas, Red Boiling Springs, Ray (Helen) Copas, Moss; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
