Jr. Dawgs now 3-1 after homecoming win
Tonight Celina hosts Monterey for Senior Night
CELINA-The Celina Jr. High Football team is off to an impressive 3-1 start this season, after notching a 36-6 homecoming victory over Pickett County last week here on John Teeples Field.
After opening the season with a loss to Overton County, the Jr. Dawgs have now won three-straight games, including a 32-6 victory over Clinton County, KY and a 36-0 shutout of Red Boiling Springs.
They look to extend their win streak Thursday, as Celina welcomes Monterey to town for 8th Grade Night, which is the final home game of the season for the Jr. Dawgs.
In the game where homecoming Ella Donaldson and football queen Ellie Woosley were crowned prior to kick off, 8th-grader Nehemiah Hamilton set the tone on the first offensive possession with a 77-yard touchdown run.
Head coach Marty Maxfield’s squad then kept their foot on the gas throughout, as Hamilton added three more scores on the night, including a 27-yard touchdown he caught off the arm of 7th-grade quarterback Kamron King.
Easton Adams also added points with a 53-yard touchdown run and a two-point conversion, and Brogan Maxfield added a conversion of his own to round out the scoring.
Defensively, Eli Andree, Bryce Evans, Maysun Johnson, and Logan Shirey all played well to help the Dawgs clinch a playoff berth with the big win.
