Just over 10 pounds wins August five-fish tourney
CELINA-The third of a monthly series of five-fish-limit tournaments hosted by Friday night tournament director Luke Sherrell to compliment his regular weekly series was held here at Dale Hollow Marina last weekend, producing several good sacks and a significant total purse of $1,000–thanks to the $100 entry fee.
Marty Buford and Cori White were the first-place beneficiaries of that larger entry fee. They won $580 after weighing in four good largemouth totaling 10.40 pounds.
Second place went to Steven and Jerry Arms. They won $420 with the final 10-pound sack made up of quality largemouth.
The big-fish award worth $100 was taken by Joey Eads with a 3.65-pound lunker.
Sherrell invited everyone to come out this week to his regular Friday night event held from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. It is an ‘any species’ event featuring a two-fish limit, a $40 entry fee, and 100% payback. There is also an optional $10 big-fish pot each night.

Thursday night won with a pair under 16 inches
CELINA-Joey Eads and Jason Lee took the top prize here at Dale Hollow Marina last Thursday night at the smallmouth-only tournament with a pair of small fish under the bottom side of the slot limit.
The two smallmouth under 16 inches long totaling 2.99 pounds handed the victors $128.
Second place went to Raymond Manis and Jim King. They won $96 with a total of 2.82 pounds.
Michael “Smiley” Savage and Brandon Cross finished third with a total of 2.67 pounds to win $64, and Kenny Meadows and Powell Walden rounded out the list of money winners after claiming $32 with 1.65 pounds.
The series continues this week and the Smiths welcome anybody interested to come fish.
The tournaments start at 7 p.m. and participants return to a 11 p.m. weigh-in. The entry fee is $20 per boat.
The series also features a ‘big fish of the year’ pot that has begun this year with a $10 one-time fee. Currently there are 67 individuals participating and Ronnie Poindexter’s 4.66-pound fish is in the lead.

Smith brothers win Star Point event Saturday
BYRDSTOWN-Steve and Jeff Smith traveled up the lake last Saturday night to the ‘smallmouth only’ tournament at Star Point Resort and carried home the winning purse with a sack weighing over six pounds.
They used a 4.66-pound big fish and a complimentary smallmouth under 16 inches long to pocket $240 with a total of 6.24 pounds.
Robbie and Billy Joe Johnson claimed the runner-up spot worth $144 with two small fish totaling 3.85 pounds.
The final paid position and $96 went to Roger Moon and his partner Travis. They used 1.99 pounds to take home $96.
The tournament series is one of the biggest smallmouth-only weekly competitions held on the lake and it features a $40 entry fee and 100% payback.
