Lady Dawgs remain among league leaders

Showdown with York in Celina Thursday

CELINA-After notching a huge win over Jackson County and taking care of business against both Van Buren County and Red Boiling Springs here at home, the Clay County Lady Bulldog volleyball team remains among District 7-A’s leaders.
Heading into a showdown with York on Thursday, the Lady Dawgs were 9-2 overall and 8-1 in league play, which ties them at the top with two other one-loss teams.
Clay County is battling both York (7-1) and Jackson County (7-1) for the conference lead and a bye in the opening round of the district tournament.
The team, led by head coach Briley Burchett and assistants Sarah Graves and Joe Adams, is paced by a solid seven-player rotation.
It features seniors Reagan Cherry, Ella Eads, and Baylor Walden, along with juniors Haylen Garrison, Natalie Smith, Jenna Thompson, and Emma Wix.
Eads and Thompson led their team with 10 kills apiece in the 3-2 win over Jackson County, while Cherry had 36 set assists in the contest.
Garrison also posted over 20 digs, while Walden, Wix, and Smith combined for almost 20 more kills.
The Lady Dawgs’ pair of losses have come to York and Monroe County, KY.
