Late teacher memorialized with tree planting at Hermitage Springs School
HERMITAGE SPRINGS-A tree was recently planted here on the campus of Hermitage Springs School in memory of the late Latisha Denton.
Hermitage Springs science teacher Donatta Birdwell, along with her gardening class, planted the tree to honor Denton, who was an alumnus of the school.
Denton also spent eight of her 30 years teaching at Hermitage Springs.
“She was a dedicated and hardworking teacher that always gave 150% to ensure that her students were learning,” Hermitage Springs principal Christina McGee said. “Not only did she have a lasting impact on the students of the school, but she also had a great impact on her colleagues.
“She is greatly missed by all, and we are grateful to have this donation to help preserve her memory.”
Denton passed away at the age of 53 on July 23 in an automobile accident.
She is survived by her parents, Tommy and Coretta Denton; brother, John (Cherry Ann) Denton; sister, Scarlett Denton; niece, Kaylin Oldham; special nephew, Bryar Kyle Fisher; as well as a host of friends and neighbors.
“In her 30 years of teaching, she impacted the lives of countless children in more ways than we will ever know or understand,” her obituary said. “She was a blessing to so many.”
