Maxfield gets prestigious honor
KNOXVILLE-After leading the resurgence of Bulldog football with an amazing final season last fall and excelling in the classroom from start to finish, Clay County High School senior Dylan Maxfield was rewarded for his efforts here over the weekend by the East Tennessee Chapter of the National Football Foundation as one of their prestigious scholar athlete award recipients.
Maxfield received the honor at a banquet Saturday, where former SEC commissioner Roy Kramer was given the Robert R. Neyland Award, Dr. Jerry Punch was recognized with the Lindsey Nelson Broadcasting Award, and the likes of Phillip Fulmer and Johnny Majors were also on hand.
“It was a great day,” Bulldog head coach Matt Bates, who accompanied Maxfield and his father at the event, said. “It was fitting for Dylan to be recognized alongside the ‘who’s who’ of football and a well-deserved honor for the young man.”
After the banquet, Maxfield and the other honorees attended the University of Tennessee Orange and White spring football game at Neyland Stadium.
Maxfield will graduate as salutatorian of his class next month and was also named the Defensive MVP of his conference and to the Tennessee Football Coaches Association All-State Team.
