Corps recommends using ramp below dam to access Obey River

CELINA-The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District has announced Moody Recreation Area, to include its boat ramp and fishing piers on the Obey River below Dale Hollow Dam, is temporarily closing for improvements beginning September 9.

According to Dale Hollow Lake Resource Manager Crystal Tingle, the work will involve refurbishing two existing fishing piers, adding a new pier, and construction for bank stabilization.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause visitors, but these improvements are necessary to provide fishing piers that are safe for public use well into the future,” Tingle said.

The Corps said repairs and improvements are expected to take approximately two weeks, and explained hikers and cyclists are asked to avoid the area during construction.

“Dale Hollow Dam Day Use Area is nearby and open for recreation, boat launch, and fishing during this closure,” the Corps said, encouraging visitors to use the alternate location to access the Obey River.
